Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) conducts the Maharashtra Judiciary exam to appoint suitable candidates for various posts of the civil judge at district courts across the state. Eligible candidates can apply for the post of civil judge. MPSC Judiciary Eligibility

Maharashtra Judiciary Eligibility criteria vary according to the candidates’ qualifications i.e. will be different for law attorneys and different for law graduates. Eligibility Criteria for MPSC Civil Judge is given below:

Law Attorneys:

For the law Attorneys who wished to apply for the MPSC Civil Judge exam, the age limits are 29-25 years which means candidates should be of minimum 29 years and the maximum age should be 35 years.

Candidates should have a legal practice of a minimum of 3 years as a lawyer, Attorney, or Advocate in the Mumbai High Court or in a subordinate district court.

It is mandatory for the candidates to know the Marathi language with any supporting documents like certificates to support this. Candidates should also be able to translate Marathi to English and vice versa.

Law Graduates:

Law graduates who wished to apply for Maharashtra Judiciary must be within the age limit of 25-29 years of age.

Candidates should have secured a minimum of 55% in their qualifying examination or should have passed a PG degree in law with a minimum of 55% marks.

Candidates should be able to read and understand the Marathi language and also be able to translate English to Marathi and vice versa.

Eligibility for the post of Service Staff members in High Court or court subordinate in the high court, Ministry of Law, Department of Justice, and other posts.

Candidates who wish to apply for other posts are from Civil Judge should be within the age limit of 21-45 years. Candidates must know how to read and write Marathi Language and be able to translate English to Marathi and vice-versa.

Candidates must have completed graduation from a recognized university.

MPSC Judiciary Exam Pattern

The selection process includes two stages:

Preliminary Examination – 100 Marks

Mains – 300 Marks

The detailed exam pattern for all the stages is as follows:

Preliminary Examination

  • The total number of questions asked in the preliminary examination is 100.
  • Each correct answer will be given 1 mark
  • For every wrong answer, ¼ marks are deducted.
  • It is an objective type exam

Mains Examination

  • It is a descriptive type examination
  • The mains exam involves two papers - Paper I and Paper II
  • The total marks consist of 200 i.e. 100 marks each.
  • The choice of language for attending the paper is given - English or Marathi.

  • The Indian Penal Code
  • The Limitation Act
  • The Maharashtra Rent Control Act
  • The Code of Criminal Procedure

Mains Exam - Paper I

  • The Sale of Goods Act
  • The transfer of Property Act
  • The Civil Procedure Code
  • The Partnership Act
  • The Special Relief Act
  • The Law of Contracts

Mains Exam - Paper II

  • The Indian Penal Code
  • The Code of Criminal Procedure
  • The Evidence Act
  • The Protection of Civil Rights Act 1955
  • The Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Act 1989
  • Essay (800 words)

Interview - The candidates who qualify for both the exams will be eligible to appear for an interview/ personality test. Candidates must prepare in such a way that they score higher than the cutoff for the names to be featured in the merit list.

Salary - Maharashtra Civil Judge salary ranges between Rs.27,700/- to Rs. 47,700/-
